2019 Motorcycle Sales Show A Negative Trend In India!

0

Over the past years, India has become the largest motorcycle market in the world, thanks to the skyrocket in sales. Many motorcycle manufacturers saw that opportunity and made strategies specifically for the Indian market. Actually, there are lots of bikes that are specifically tailored to India, much of them being small-displacement bikes.

Even though there is a steady flow of new bikes launching in India, that market is showing a downward trend actually. Several companies ended fiscal 2019 on not such a positive note, but there is always room for improvement.

The three biggest motorcycle manufacturers in India had lower sales figures at the end of 2019 compared to the end of 2018. We are talking about Giants Bajaj, Hero, and TVS. TVS managed to lose 25 percent of sales by December 2019.

Royal Enfield also has a dip in sales. Their sales figures for December 2018 are 56,026. The sales figures for December 2019 for Royal Enfield are 48,489. That’s a 13,5% decrease in sales!

Out of bigger motorcycle manufacturers in India, only Suzuki India has positive sales results. They managed to increase their sales by 1,1%.

While some companies have difficulties in the domestic, Indian market; they are much more successful in foreign markets. Hero and Royal Enfield saw a decrease in their exports. On the other hand, Bajaj and TVS grew their foreign market shares to almost 20%!

There are a few causes of this negative trend in the Indian market. Some analysts claim that an increase in insurance premium in 2018, and the BS-VI emission norms that will take effect in April 2020, are the main causes.

There will probably be a decrease in sales in the Indian market for a few months. Probably, they will stabilize, after the emission norms take effect.

Rumors Speculate On The Release Of A Royal Enfield Himalayan 250!

0

Royal Enfield is joining on the baby adventure bike pie feast! That mid-range adventure bike niche is absolutely blossoming in the last two years. BMW and KTM are already leading in this niche, with G 310 GS and 250 Adventure, respectively. Of course, the future of this niche is bright, as there is more variety coming each month! So, we learned that Royal Enfield will downsize its Himalayan bike.

Himalayan sports a 411cc single engine, which is a small engine compared to motorcycles made in the USA. In Europe and Asia, it is more beneficial to have a single-engine motorcycle, because of the driving license restrictions and tax rates during the purchase of the bike. India is a prime example of that, charging lower taxes for smaller motorcycles. Hence, their rise in popularity.

All these facts come in perfect time for a random rumor that surfaced a few weeks ago. Apparently, someone in India spotted a downsized model of 2020 Himalayan. While some speculate that this is the updated variant of 2020 Himalayan, there are also counter speculations that this is actually a baby ADV in works.

The counter speculations make sense in a certain way. The competition is aggressively launching bikes in the small-displacement ADV niche. It would be natural to see some sort of response from Royal Enfield.

Also, there were rumors during the summer of 2019, that Royal Enfield is developing a quarter-liter engine. When you combine these rumors, it makes sense that one of their next moves would be a baby ADV. We’ll see what happens.

BMW Will Possibly Launch An Electric Motorcycle In A Five-Year Window!

0

Electric motorcycles have a bright future ahead, that’s for sure. While this market is still in its early phases, things are changing rapidly for the future. In a decade or so, we will probably hear more electric engines than the rumble of combustion engines, and that is alright. The head of BMW Motorrad seems to share the same feelings.

From an interview with Markus Schramm made by Cycle World, we have gathered some juicy information! He says that BMW is planning to launch an electric motorcycle for the urban environment in the window of 5 years. Also, he says that it is highly unlikely that we will see any off-road or sports electric motorcycles any time soon. That is understandable, due to the limitations of the electric engines.

So, what does this all mean? BMW is set to beat the competition in the electric motorcycle market. By that, we mean electric motorcycles designed for commuting. That makes total sense, due to the battery limitations electric motorcycles have at the moment. It is hard to find any electric motorcycle that has a battery range fit for road trips, for example.

Also, Schramm states that they are planning to implement some sort of safety technology in all future bikes in their lineup. They want to pair up cars and motorcycles so that the car drivers know when a motorcycle is around. That would drastically decrease the percentage of collisions between motorcycles and cars. If BMW can pair this safety tech with their electric motorcycle, that could be an ultimate combination for a commute.

You Can Preorder The Jawa Perak As Of Now!

0

The new year is starting pretty strong for Jawa Motorcycles. Now, you can pre-order their new Perak motorcycle. It is a blacked-out bobber bike, that isn’t available in the USA or UK, sadly. For now, it will only release in India, where it is certain to become a huge hit. Jawa Motorcycles is planning to make deliveries in April.

This company had a clunky revival so far. Actually, the demand for their bikes skyrocketed, but the company had struggles with meeting that demand with their supply of motorcycles. Also, because of time pressing, they delivered bikes that weren’t renowned for their build quality. This debacle was called as product failure, at least that’s what their parent company, Mahindra says. Now, the things for Jawa could change in 2020!

Now, on some information about the Perak! The bobber build is surely a throwback to the former Jawa bikes. Also, the bike comes outfitted with a 334cc engine, with liquid cooling. Well, it is no powerhouse, that’s for sure, but it hits its target market, and is a direct competitor to Royal Enfield.

We think that Perak will be a hit in India. It looks magnificent, and will probably encourage a lot of riders to move back to Jawa. The obvious pitfall could be the mistake from the past, and that is not meeting the demand with the supply. Also, people weren’t so happy with the build quality of the previous model, so they need to ramp up on that front too!

If this model returns Jawa Motorcycles to a positive reputation, maybe we can see these new models in the USA and UK markets!

Cleveland CycleWerks To Release Its First USA-Made Motorcycle In March!

0

Cleveland CycleWerks is going in 2020 with full force! They are setting their eyes on the electric motorcycle market, actually. The name of their electric motorcycle prototype is Falcon Rising. Still, we don’t have too much information about the bike. The only piece of information we have is that the bike is to be created in the USA. Also, we know about the release date. It is set to release on March 20. You will be able to see it at the Crawford Auto-Aviation Museum in Cleveland, Ohio.

They are close to their goal of producing bikes in the USA area. Up until now, they only created bikes in China, because of the obvious production cost savings. After 10 years, they can finally return to bike production in Cleveland.

Cleveland CycleWerks has a bright future on the motorcycle market. They create different and interesting products that many motorcycle companies look up to. The best part is – they create budget-friendly bikes.

We are eagerly expecting more information on Falcon Rising, and its subsequent reveal, which we will certainly cover.

KTM 490 Adventure Bike Is In The Works!

0

Exciting news for adventure bike enthusiasts! Apparently, KTM will create a 490 Adventure motorcycle. The parent company of KTM, the Piere Mobility Group passed the documents to their investors. These documents detail more than a dozen new bikes. One such bike is a parallel-twin 500cc adventure bike! Also, the CEO of KTM confirmed this.

The new bike won’t replace their 390 Adventure motorcycle. It will stay the entry-level motorcycle in their Adventure line of bikes.

We still don’t know how the 490 Adventure will exactly look like. Our assumption is that the bike will look like a bulky version of 390 adventure with the 790 Adventure engine under the hood.

With this bike in its already extensive lineup of adventure bikes, KTM will have a decent range of bikes that beats the competition. According to some sources, they are already up in sales compared to BMW.

Damon Motorcycles and BlackBerry QNX Will Collaborate On The Hypersport Pro Electric Superbike Safety System!

0

CES will certainly be very interesting this year. One of the compelling announcements before the CES is the CoPilot advanced warning system. The company behind this system is Damon Motorcycles, who licensed the QNX technology from BlackBerry, specifically their real-time operating system. They also plan to unveil an all-new electric motorcycle outfitted with this technology.

The CoPilot system includes all the cameras and sensors on the bike. It tracks the vicinity of the bike in real-time. The system provides alerts and warnings to the rider through visual information on the monitor. Also, all this information is brought via haptic feedback too.

The goal of Damon Motorcycles is to create the safest bike for the road. Its warning system should provide all the critical information about the bike and its surroundings faster than other bikes on the market. The partnership with BlackBerry will surely be beneficial here.

What Does the CEO of Damon Motorcycles Say?

Folks from Web Bike World had a chance to sit down with Jay Giraud, the CEO of the company. They asked him about the background of the partnership with BlackBerry. He says that one of their investors actually worked at QNX for numerous years. The investor connected Damon Motorcycles with the BlackBerry CTO. That’s how the partnership got conceived. Giraud claims that QNX software is the best of its kind, “when it comes to operating the mission-critical systems in cars.”

Nevertheless, this system will be different than its car counterpart. Giraud states that it will be more advanced.

Actually, over 150 million vehicles and a couple of million other systems around the world use the BlackBerry QNX technology. Some fields that use this technology to great benefit are aerospace, defense, energy, industrial automation, medicine, and robotics.

Damon aims to disrupt the motorcycle industry with their new motorcycle using this technology. We are certainly very excited for its reveal.

When Can I See the Reveal?

You can see the announcement of the Damon Motorcycles electric motorcycle at CES on January 7. The time of the event is 10 AM on the PST timezone.

Husqvarna To Add Norden 250, 401, and 501 To Its Lineup!

0

EICMA really showed us some nice lookers on the motorcycle front! One such bike is certainly the Husqvarna Norden 901, a concept bike that is coming soon to the Husqvarna showrooms. Some sources state that Husqvarna will probably extend this model line. They will add the Norden 250, 401, and 501; along with the Norden 901.

Still, we don’t know how the 501 and 401 will look like, as there are no images online. We presume that these two will look like the 901, albeit a bit smaller. Also, we know that the 501 will feature the KTM 490 parallel-twin engine. On the other hand, the 401 will feature the KTM 390 Adventure engine.

Also, the reports from investors show us that Husqvarna will create a 250 adventure bike. It is probably made with the Asian market in mind (looking at you, India!).

We expect these three new bikes to release after the Norden 901. At least, those are our expectations!

Ducati Streetfighter V2 Is In The Works!

0

Claudio Domenicali, the CEO of Ducati, revealed that they are planning to launch a lite, lower capacity version of their Streetfighter V4 motorcycle – the Streetfighter V2.

The new V4 is quite powerful, as its power is 205bhp. This power may alienate some riders, as this is an extreme powerhouse of a motorcycle. To that, Domenicali comments that they have the Panigale V2. It makes 155bhp and is in the range where you can experience the sports riding experience without going to the extreme. They also want to have naked bikes in different categories.

He says that the Streetfighter V4 will remain at the top of Ducati’s line when it comes to performance and power. They are also thinking about a new, interesting, naked model that will come sooner than we think.

Streetfighter V4 is essentially a Panigale V4 with flat bars and no fairing. We expect that the Streetfighter V2 will carry over most of the other specifications of its sports counterpart.

The speculation is that it will have the same 955cc liquid-cooled V-twin engine with a power of 155bhp. Along with that, it might have fully adjustable Showa forks, Brembo brakes with ABS, as well as Sachs shock and twin monoblock. It could also feature a quickshifter or autoblipper, braking control, and anti-wheelie and traction control that we can see in the Panigale bikes.

The Streetfighter V2 will probably weigh like the Panigale V2 (200kg). It certainly won’t need four aerodynamic wings that V4 uses to keep the front wheel on the ground. That means that the front end may have a sleeker design.

All of the speculations about the Streetfighter V2 induce just more excitement. Yet another unknown fact is the price of the motorcycle.
