Husqvarna Launches Two New Motorcycles in India!

Bajaj introduced the brand Husqvarna to the public at India Bike Week 2019. KTM owns Husqvarna, and Bajaj has a 48% stake in the company. Bajaj has an increasing influence on the Indian motorcycle market, so their move is no wonder. Husky’s got two new motorcycles set to release on the Indian market. These are the Svartpilen 250 and the Vitpilen 250.

All bikes are fitted with the same 249cc fuel-injected liquid-cooled, four-stroke, single-cylinder engine. This engine is more or less the same engine as the KTM Duke 250 engine. It’s 30 hp and 18 lb-ft of torque. All bikes feature a steel trellis frame, upside-down front forks, 17-inch wheels, and single disc brakes with Bosch ABS. The Vitpilen features clip-on handlebars. The Svartpilen has wider handlebars that are not clip-on.

Both these bikes are as elegant and stylish as you would imagine them to be. These are essentially the smaller-displacement version of Husqvarna’s already incredibly cool motorcycles. Husky is clearly making its money’s worth out of design by dropping in an Indian-proven engine and promoting these bikes professionally. They made a smart move for sure. We hope that these bikes will expand beyond the Indian market at some point.

There is currently no news if these bikes are going to launch in Europe. We highly doubt the bikes to ever launch in the USA, but maybe we are wrong. The pricing for these bikes are still a secret, but it will be unveiled soon, as the bikes will launch in February of 2020.

Yamaha Considering To Create A More Extreme Ténéré 700!

The Yamaha Ténéré 700 is a motorcycle not available in the US yet, but people are really excited about it. This bike is on sale for less than $10,000 and it’s a great adventure bike according to its users. However, some people don’t feel it’s as serious as it should be. It seems that this might change in the future. In the future, there may be a more off-road-focused, hardcore model in the works.

Takushiro Shiraishi, Yamaha’s project leader for this bike, said that the company may think about developing a Ténéré 700 that’s a little more extreme. He suggests that there might be a smaller, nimbler, and more balanced version coming out at a later date.

Ténéré 700 is selling crazy in Germany where it’s already available, which means that Yamaha is likely to try and make the most of the design with at least one other version of it. That makes sense for them. They’re going to get the most return on their investment out of the concept if they can make a few different versions of the bike. We’re looking forward to hearing more news about this.

Helite Will Include Electronic Airbag Tech On the New Airbag Vests!

The company will have some shiny new technology available to its clients by 2020. Helite will attach electronic airbag technology to the GP Air Vest and Turtle 2 Vest. Other than the vests, Helite will also launch an airbag backpack. The release window for the vests is the spring of 2020, and the summer of 2020 for the backpack.

This will be a new system that will be provided alongside the mechanically activated airbag system. The electronically triggered device should consist of two different sensors. These sensors can detect the rider’s condition and then activate the airbag device at an appropriate moment.

The first sensor is for impact and is mounted on a motorcycle. It can cause the airbag to be deployed even when the driver is at a standstill. The second is a motion sensor that can sense if a rider goes down or if an accident occurs while riding. Together, these two sensors will help ensure that the vest is deployed at the right time.

The vest is reusable. All you need to do is swap the CO2 container and it’s ready for further use. Nonetheless, you should make sure that it was not compromised in any way when it was deployed. At this time, Helite has no price information for the vests.

You Can Now Rent Harley-Davidson LiveWire!

One of the biggest gripes about the Harley-Davidson LiveWire is the substantial $30,000 asking price. If you don’t have $30k to spend, what are you going to do? You could rent a LiveWire to witness the future of Harley-Davidson. The motorcycle rental service, Twisted Road, has two Live Wires available to rent.

There are only two, but that’s better than nothing at all. One of them is near Los Angeles, the other is near San Francisco, so if you’re on or near the American West Coast, you may want to think about renting either of these motorcycles.

The company’s going to rent the one in San Francisco for $175 a day. The rental of the LA motorcycle is going to run $199/day. This is a lot higher than the average rental rate, but it’s still an awesome deal as there are only two of them right now.

KTM and CF Moto Decide To Collaborate!

The 790 Duke and 790 Adventure will be developed in Hangzhou, China, as part of a new collaboration between KTM and CF Moto. It’s got a new warehouse of almost 25.000 square feet. The construction of the plant began in March 2018 and is expected to be completed by June 2020. After that, KTM will transfer some of its motorcycle manufacture to that plant.

The plant has a manufacturing capacity of 50,000 motorcycles annually. This could be increased to 100,000 annually if demand makes it appropriate. The new manufacturing plant will also have a section for research and development.

The 790 Duke and 790 Adventure will certainly be developed there. Apparently, the new 890 Duke and CF Moto’s own variants will also come from this plant. This will allow KTM’s facility in Austria to concentrate on the flagship models of their motorcycle business. Such models include the 1290 Super Adventure, 1290 Super Duke GT and 1290 Super Duke R models.

This is surely an interesting, yet not too surprising move from KTM. It definitely makes sense, as manufacturing costs are very low in China, with no high damage to quality. It will be important to see whether this affects the quality at all or whether it changes the customer’s view of the brand.

Shrinked Suzuki Katana 125R In The Works?

One of Suzuki’s most popular models, the comeback of the Katana at the 2018 EICMA show met with a positive response. But, with its 999cc engine, it sits somewhat alone in the range next to the identical GSX-S and GSX-R models.

That might be subject to change. Suzuki is busy developing a nameplate into a multi-displacement range. The range will maintain all the neo-retro style into a more compact model.

The original Katana is based on the Suzuki GSX-S1000, and the Suzuki Katana 125R is based on the Suzuki GSX-S125. It would be priced at around £4,000 in the UK market.

Sadly, this model is probably only for the Japanese market. It is the only market where Katana has positive sales results.

Nevertheless, Suzuki GSX-S125 is on the European market, so that fact gives little hope that the Katana 125R may be easy to launch in this market, given the similarities between the two bikes.

Los Angeles Has a New Zero Emissions Plan!

The electric vehicle revolution is in high gear. Not only are electric motorcycles included in this, but they are also an important part of the story. Los Angeles has an exciting new plan for electric vehicles. The new Zero Emissions Roadmap 2.0 was created by the Los Angeles Cleantech Incubator.

There are a lot of points on the road map, but perhaps the most important point to note is that the program calls for 80% of all new vehicles sold in the area to be electric by 2028. It might seem a bit away, but eight years is really not that far away. The California Air Resources Board and Mayor Eric Garcetti are backing the campaign too.

The program lays out the steps that need to be taken and the goals to be reached if the target is to be accomplished. The reason that the proposal is targeting 2028 instead of 2030 is that Los Angeles will host the Olympics and Paralympics that year. These are big targets. Hopefully, automakers and motorcycle manufacturers will work extremely fast to make bikes that people would be happy with. We think the charging station network is what’s going to be really important.

BMW Unveils the E-Power Roadster Prototype!

There are lots of electric motorcycles out or in the pipeline these days. It’s no surprise to see BMW jump on the bandwagon. The company introduced the Vision DC Roadster way back, but there hasn’t been much talk about it from the Bavarian company ever since.

And here is the E-Power Roadster. It is their electric motorcycle prototype. Several European journalists were invited by BMW to come and check out the motorcycle. It looks like a spare parts motorcycle with an advanced electric powertrain. According to RideApart, the front end of the bike is the same as S 1000 R and the back end is the same as R 1200 RS. The bike is still a concept, so at this stage, BMW has focused on the powertrain and not the rest of the machine. We would say that the final product will be more appealing.

Nonetheless, the bike will ride from 0 to 60 mph in 2.9 seconds. That’s very fast as the bike weighs 639 pounds. The bike can recharge a distance of three miles for every minute it’s on the fast charger. This means that it takes 30 minutes to reach 90% of its battery capacity.

The electric powertrain components are adapted from the BMW automotive business side. The bike utilizes a 13 kWh battery and a long-wheelbase electric motor from China-only 7-series. The bike can travel between 125 and 185 miles per charge, and the electric motor is good for 136 hp and 147 lb-ft of torque.

The range isn’t there yet, but it’s nice to see BMW moving to something here.

Ninebot Apex – the New Electric Motorcycle Powerhouse From Segway!

In true Segway style, the company immediately took something that looked pretty cool and tried to make less cool by calling it a Super Scooter. Still, if you overlook Segway’s attempt to bewilder their latest creation, the Ninebot Apex Concept is actually pretty nice-looking. It looks like a genuine electric sports bike.

There’s little detail about the bike at this time. Everything we know is coming from MoreBikes. According to this them, the bike will have a top speed of 125 mph and will have acceleration from 0 to 60 mph in 2.9 seconds. That’s all we know about it.

The range of the bike is unspecified, and we think this is going to be the key factor here, as well as the size. The bike is quicker than the Harley LiveWire and gives just about any other electric bike something to worry about. The question will be whether it can travel beyond the competition or be cheaper than the competition. If so, Zero, Harley, Energica, and Lightning Motorcycles could all have a new and serious rival in their market.

Tesla May Be Building an Electric Dirt Bike!

Tesla showed its new Cybertruck recently. The reveal caused a lot of uproars. Also, the Tesla four-wheeler ATV was a small part of the Cybertruck demonstration. It has recently been announced that the four-wheeler will enter development sometime in the future. Even more recently, Tesla CEO Elon Musk discussed the possibility of an electric dirt bike.

Musk tweeted: “Electric dirt bikes would be cool too”. He referred to a question asked about the ATV and the potential updates on it. Musk said that Tesla was going to try to get the ATV out at the same time that the truck is coming out, but he failed to say when the dirt bike would come out if it ever would.

If you’re hoping for a Tesla road bike, don’t count on it just yet. Musk said Tesla wasn’t going to do mountain bikes. He found them too dangerous and said he nearly died on a motorcycle when he was 17 and got hit by a truck.

We don’t put too much faith in Musk saying that he wouldn’t do a road bike. If he is able to get autonomous vehicle technology to the point where he wants it, an electric motorcycle that can be detected by autonomous car technology actually makes complete sense. It’ll be fascinating to see what’s will happen with Tesla and electric bikes in the coming years. We would really love to see the Tesla electric dirt bike!
