Italy Is Pushing Development Of EV-Friendly Highway!

There was a sitdown in Italy a few days ago where a group of multinational companies came to a deal to launch the Arena del Futuro project.

Arena del Futuro will be a true arena of the future. It will be a segment of the A35 Brebemi-Aleatica highway that will utilize contactless charging to transfer power to electric vehicles. This highway connects Brescia and Milan.

What this project encompasses is a 1,050-meter ring located near the Chiari Ovest exit. This “arena” will be fed by 1 megawatt of electric power and will utilize both static and dynamic power transfer tech. The result should be the charging of both stationary and moving vehicles in the area.

This group of companies also plans to utilize 5G technology to ensure total road safety. Also, the project will serve as an analysis for the best road surface for the blend of efficient charging of EVs and road durability.

We don’t know how long this project will last, but it seems that it will take a “few months of work and study”. For now, Stellantis passenger vehicles and an Iveco intercity bus will participate in this project.

There is no mention of electric motorcycles or electric scooters on this project, but this project surely will positively impact the world of electric motorcycles. Especially if this project ends up pushing a technology that finds everyday use.

We are certainly looking forward to hearing more about the development of this project. The energy-efficient future may not be so far ahead after all!
