A subtle change of the Harley-Davidson website suggests that their two new models – Bronx naked bike and Pan-America adventure bike are delayed until 2021. These two new models are graced with the new, revolutionary water-cooled engine.
What is the reason behind this delay? Well, we suspect that it is the product of the change in upper management. They launched the ‘More Roads to Harley-Davidson’ program that introduced new models that comply with the ‘Rewire’ program.
Of course, the main culprit to this delay is the recent COVID-19 pandemic that affects motorcycle manufacturers worldwide. We see BMW, Husqvarna, and KTM won’t be attending Eicma, and Intermot trade shows scheduled for this autumn when motorcycle manufacturers announce their new models. It’s highly likely that these three won’t be the only ones to back out.
As most dealerships are closed at the time of this writing, manufacturers want to use this time to sell their existing bikes. Factory shutdowns are also creating problems with developing new models.
Along with this, if motorcycle manufacturers pressure the EU to extend the time limit of the Euro-5 norm, it is questionable how many new motorcycles we’ll see this year.
