Harley-Davidson Patents A Supercharged Engine!

Sadly, Harley-Davidson didn’t do well financially in the last quarter of 2020. The financial forecasts that they had for that period didn’t go as they planned. Well, Harley-Davidson is now in a situation where they need to experiment to get back on track. Of course, they already started to innovate their library with electric motorcycles and sportbikes. Now, it seems that they are aiming for a supercharger, according to the patents filed by Harley.

Why would they make a supercharger? Well, Kawasaki H2 range has enjoyed excellent sales results thanks to the supercharger’s performance increase.

The patent filed by Harley-Davidson shows the general layout of the supercharger and how it would be implemented in some of their bikes. We expect Harley to implement this in their Big Twin range but still are uncertain if they will upgrade older bikes too.

Another uncertainty is the purpose of the supercharger – will it be mainly for more power or to comply with new emission standards? Based on recent Harley-Davidson decisions, it seems that they are still unsure what they want – more power or more emission standard-compliant bikes.

Well, time will tell what do they pursue, but one is certain. A change is needed, as Harley-Davidson got under some criticism due to the inefficiency of their motorcycles in general.
