Kymco‘s latest adventure scooter model takes the concept of the Honda X-ADV to the next level. I don’t know if the CV-R5 wants to be a scooter or an adventure bike.
First, it’s styling. It has angular bodywork and an upward-sweeping front fairing. The Husqvarna Norden 901-inspired lines make it look like an adventure bike from the front. The side view shows that it is not an adventure bike, but neither is a scooter.
Scooters are appealing because of their practicality. Due to their flat flooring and large under-seat storage compartments, scooters are perfect for carrying extra stuff between their legs. Getting aboard the scooter is straightforward because you don’t need to swing a leg over the bike’s rear.
However, the CV-R5 appears to have a more giant saddle hump than maxi-scooters like the Yamaha TMAX. So, the best way to get on this gadget is to swing a leg over it like a motorbike. Plus, you lose the convenience of a flat floorboard.
All this makes me wonder who the Kymco CV-R5 is for. There are few two-wheelers like it on the market. It’s for someone unsure of their bike needs. Who wants an easy-to-ride commuter with enough ground clearance for dirt roads or moto camping?
Kymco says the bike has a 427cc single-cylinder engine. Its chain final drive makes it hard to discern if it has a CVT or dual-clutch gearbox. Despite that, Kymco is set to debut the CV-R5 adventure scooter at EICMA 2024, ending our speculation. For more news and updates keep visiting BikersInsider.
