Schuberth E1 Dual sport helmet in-depth review

Introduction

Schuberth E1 Helmet from Schuberth gives adventure riders a helmet that can perform when they need it. Schuberth designed E1 as a helmet that is both aerodynamically and acoustically tuned. Helmets are washable between rides. Thanks to Schuberth’s Anti-Roll-Off System and the detachable and washable inside lining.

It features articulating peak visor. Riders can wear the E1 with the face shield and peak attached or remove them during the ride. It ensures that riders get enough air as the ride gets more intense. The E1 helmet has an adjustable chin bar vent and a washable filter that is removable and washable.

Schuberth’s SRC-System PRO is pre-installed in the E1’s antenna. As an intercom with other riders, the Bluetooth SRC-System connects to a GPS, MP3 player. It can connect to a cell phone for music listening or phone calls. Using the latest in Cardo communication technology.

You can check our list of 8 Best Dual Sport helmets before making a purchase.

Features

  • Improved EPS with integrated antennas for SRC-System which improves radio and Bluetooth range
  • Micro-lock ratchet chin strap
  • Large reflective panels on neckroll
  • Improved face shield ratchet mechanism
  • Integrated Sun Visor

Build & Design

The outer shell, which is available in two different sizes, has an ideal shape while also providing great protection. It was created utilizing Schuberth’s standard compression molding method. It has excellent stability while remaining lightweight.

And, given that the E1 is the same helmet as the C3 Pro, except a different chin bar and sun peak. It’s not surprising that the E1 received the same three-star rating as the C3 Pro when SHARP evaluated it.

Yet, keep in mind that this is only for one of the tests (the 8.5 m/s test). It does not provide an accurate picture of the results of the study.

Schuberth-e1-8
Schuberth E1 Build

As a side note, SHARP does more than test the helmet. It is important to note that the number of times the chin guards get unlocked is recorded. Schuberth has a reputation for performing well in this regard.

The E1 is also equipped with Schuberth’s AROS chin strap. It is meant to limit the likelihood of your helmet falling loose during an accident. Because helmet roll-off is a serious issue in bicycle accidents, it is encouraging to see Schuberth doing its part to lessen the likelihood of it occurring.

Vision

The visor on the E1 is optically correct to class 1, just like the visors on all other Schuberth helmets, which means there should be no distortion. It also has Pinlock anti-fog capability. A Pinlock insert should be included in the box – but always check with your shop before purchasing.

The visor on the E1 is the same as the visor on the C3 pro, which means they are swappable if you need to order a replacement.

Schuberth-e1-7
Schuberth E1 Visor

The majority of owners also agree that the field of view is pleasant and wide. The rapid-release visor mechanism is among the best available. So everything is in working order with the E1’s visor.

Comfort

The modular construction of the EPS foam liner ensures maximum shock absorption. The improved force absorption and dispersion provided by this precise division are undeniable.

Comfort and cooling are achievable with the help of COOLMAX and THERMO COOL lining material, which can be easily removed for washing. In addition, you’ll find EPS foam, which provides the best shock absorption.

Schuberth-e1-13-liner
Schuberth E1 Liner

To quickly remove sweat from the user’s head, they use Cool Max materials (the same as those used in their current line of helmets).

They are also certified by ko-Tex 100. In other words, they are free of dangerous compounds and should not cause irritation to human skin.

Of course, the lining is detachable and washable as well (as you find on all but the most budget of budget helmets these days).

Owners of the E1 report that it is really comfy. The removable neck roll stops all noise and wind virtually from entering the helmet. Others found it to be better for rounder heads.

Ventilaiton

The E1’s vents are adequate, and the mouthpiece is easy to open with a thick glove because of its large opening. Additionally, a big tab located directly under the visor hole sprays air into your face. On top of that, the helmet has only one huge vent and no exhaust holes on the back. A more prominent chin bar would let more air into the helmet, but it would also make it colder in colder weather, so you can’t really complain about that.

Even with gloves, the chin guard vent allows a lot of air in, and both vents open like a charm. There is also a reusable foam filter behind that chin vent if it gets clogged by off-road debris.

Temperatures of up to 100 degrees Fahrenheit aren’t a problem for those who frequently ride in these conditions. Unless you’re going off-road in the sun and need a larger aperture to suit goggles and provide additional airflow, it seems to work well.

Otherwise, the ventilation on the Schuberth E1 should be acceptable for most road warriors.

Safety Ratings

While features like Bluetooth and a larger visor are desirable, they shouldn’t come at the expense of safety. Fortunately, Schuberth kept the E1’s manufacturing standards high, making it both adaptable and tough.

Expert opinions are one of the finest ways to assess a new helmet’s safety. SHARP was able to test the E1, giving it three out of five stars. While this isn’t the ideal result, most helmets rarely get three stars, so it’s not surprising.

Schuberth-e1-5
Schuberth E1

The E1 excels at the chin strap. Other helmets’ straps can fall loose in a crash, causing the helmet to fly off. As you might imagine, that is not ideal.

The Schuberth E1 is also safe due to the direct fiber processing. This building method, says the business, improves impact absorption. The EPS features split foam within, allowing each piece to work independently, efficiently distributing impact.

The E1’s compact shape means there is less material to cover your head. However, the components that are there appear to be above average, so you shouldn’t be concerned.

Verdict

The Schuberth E1 hybrid adventure helmet is versatile. Schuberth has done an excellent job of transforming a touring, flip-front helmet into an adventure helmet. It boasts an excellent build quality as well as a host of fun features. Five years of warranty coverage and a sturdy, smooth, quiet, and comfortable design.

The Schuberth E1 is a tribute to German engineering’s unequaled level of precision. Because every part of this helmet seems to function, this model appears to be superior in the line. Besides, because the speakers present in the helmet. Schuberth ensured that this model is one of the quietest, further enhancing its value.

Finally, we love that the best features and benefits are available in the E1 helmet. Even though you get some great additions, the Basic helmet is more than adequate for your riding.

Anyone who enjoys long-term bike travel and off-roading will find that a flip-front into a helmet is the right solution. Thank you, Schuberth!

Alpinestars Supertech M10 – an in-depth review

Introduction

Only Alpinestars can claim to be the only manufacturer to guarantee complete protection for the rider from head to toe. Alpinestars spent over five years developing, testing, and refining the Alpinestars Supertech M10 helmet. After putting it through, we can say with certainty that the company did produce an excellent helmet.

When it comes to riding motocross, you want a helmet that will keep you protected and comfortable. Yet, Alpinestars got you set with the Supertech M10 – their latest product.

Supertech M10
Alpinestars M10 Supertech

The fact that the company has worked on this helmet for so long adds to its charm. Alpinestars used to create everything but a helmet. Now they have a product that will please all motocross riders, from professional racers to amateurs.

You can check out our list of best dirt bike/motocross helmets in 2021 before going further.

Features

Before we start our in-depth review, we take a look at some salient features.

  • Carbon fiber outer shell provides a lightweight exterior
  • Inner liner with many densities
  • Peak with a simple release
  • There are two peaks included, one normal and one super high.
  • Best ventilation through 19 intakes and 5 exhaust holes.
  • In a crash, the side shell design features soft EPP foam to protect the collarbone.
  • Emergency release cheek pads with 3D molded foam are removable.
  • Comfort lining is removable, anti-bacterial, and hydrophobic.
  • DOT and ECE approved.

Design & Build

The M10 is a fantastic motocross helmet, both function and size. One of the best qualities of this product is its carbon fiber construction. This material is light, which helps cut rider fatigue, especially on lengthy rides. As a rider, you may not notice the weight difference. Once you wear the M10, you’ll notice the carbon fiber build.

3 Layers of Protection

This helmet has three separate outer layers for the most excellent protection. A high-density coating of 3K carbon helps absorb impacts. It also has a radial strength unidirectional carbon composite layer. Finally, the M10 includes an aramid fiber coating that aids in piercing.

supertech m10 build
Supertech build

The M10 also has a cavity for the AMA-required helmets Off Device. It allows you to customize your fit without compromising safety or performance. Aside from that, the visor detaches upon impact. You don’t have to worry about it jerking your neck backward.

Vision

Because you’ll be using this helmet with dirt bike goggles, the total visibility will be heavily influenced by the type you choose. The M10 has a large field of view, making it an excellent choice for dirt bike riders of all skill levels. Furthermore, the A-Head adjustment system allows you to ensure that your goggles fit correctly while also adjusting how well the helmet rests back on your head.

Supertech M10 Peak
Supertech M10 Peak

Because your field of view is so crucial while off-roading, Alpinestars has provided you with more than enough to see while riding, don’t be concerned about blind spots or impediments in your path when riding.

Comfort

We’ve gone through a couple of the features that make the Supertech M10 exceptionally comfy on the trails or tracks. Let’s go over the choices that will ensure you appreciate wearing the M10 as much as you do riding it.

Liner for the Interior

We adore this liner for a variety of reasons. First and foremost, we like that it has a configurable A-head adjustment option, which means you can make sure the helmet fits your head perfectly. Second, the Cool-Max material aids in sweat-wicking, even in the hottest of temperatures. Riders who enjoy riding in the desert sand will love how cool the helmet keeps them during the journey.

supertech m10 liner
Supertech M10 inside view

EPS

Additionally, the liner covers the whole interior of the helmet, including the base, to help absorb impact around the collarbone. Overall, the M10 has the sense of a compression cushion for your entire head. The multi-density EPS foam inside also contributes to this sensation. Alpinestars made sure that the thickness of this material was adjustable based on its position within the helmet, so you receive additional protection where you need it and less bulk where you don’t.

Lightweigh Design

If you’ve never used carbon fiber before, you’ll be amazed at how well it covers your head without adding any extra weight. With a weight of 2.8 pounds, you’ll forget you’re wearing such a high-tech helmet at all. Neck fatigue isn’t usually an issue unless you’re riding for hours, but it won’t be with the M10.

A-Head Fit System (Adjustable)

If you’re unfamiliar with this part, it works as follows: a mesh net attaches to four locations on the helmet. The helmet will sit higher on your head if you move the pegs down (making it tighter). You’ll have a better fit if you move them up. In addition, you can only move the front or rear pegs to tilt the M10 backward or forwards.

With this level of adjustment, the Supertech becomes much more adaptable to riders of different shapes and sizes. Because of this and the four shell variations, you won’t have to worry about this helmet fitting too firmly or poorly, which adds to the overall comfort.

Safety Ratings

While we would appreciate it if companies such as SHARP or Snell examined the Supertech M10, ECE, and DOT certifications, we’ve already talked about the visor and the multi-density EPS lining for safety. The three-layer carbon fiber shell also contributes to the helmet’s safety. The material is excellent at absorbing and dissipating impacts.

MIPS (Multi Direcional Impact Protection Systems)

A MIPS-like technology features within this helmet. It aids in keeping the liner and shell separate. MIPS (Multi-directional Impact Protection Systems) are becoming more common in motocross helmets. They can help prevent injuries. That said, though, nothing can ensure that your head will be completely safe all the time. Don’t expect to wear this helmet, and be sure that you won’t have a concussion.

supertech m10 MIPS
Supertech M10 MIPS

Alpinestars utilized R&D to build one of the safest helmets we’ve seen, as they did with other elements of the M10. It has more functions than other models on the market and will serve you well if you happen to tumble out on the trail.

Verdict

More Options in size

The Alpinestars M10 helmet comes in a variety of shell sizes. The AMA Pro-mandated Hats Off device has a cavity (all you have to do is remove the foam insert). Alpinestars’ A-head fitting system lets riders adjust the helmet’s angle on their heads for convenience and goggle alignment. Every MXA test motorist loved having this option, even if they didn’t always need or use it.

Details in disigns

Because Alpinestars has been a firm that pays close attention to detail, the M10 Supertech helmet is no exception. Their looks are essential to them. They wanted a stylish, small helmet. They invented a unique visor release device that prevents the visor from snagging in the ground and causing neck injuries. The contoured base of the helmet has energy-absorption pads designed where the helmet may hit the rider’s collarbone.

Comfort

So you can remove your cheek padding while wearing your helmet. It is vital because it allows emergency personnel to remove the helmet without causing extra injury. The outer shell in the Alpinestars Supertech M10 helmet is made of high-density carbon and Aramid fibers, with an EPS liner and MIPS system.

Well ventilated

The M10 weighs only 2.8 pounds. Alpinestars engineers used thermal testing to establish where air should be ducted to maximize ventilation. The flexibility helps fit the MXA wrecking crew’s varying skull shapes. The helmet has an acceptable sound level and excellent breathability. We tested it for 23 hours and had no difficulties with durability.

Drawbacks of the helmets

The front chin bar vents have no screens in them. They mud.

The upper front vents didn’t sit flush, allowing dirt to pile onto the helmet.

Its shape is more space-age than natural.

It’s good to see Alpinestars produce a quality motocross helmet. We love the carbon fiber structure and the four different shell sizes. While the M10’s look may not be to everyone’s taste, Alpinestars knew what they were doing. If you appreciate getting muddy while riding, keep in mind that mud can get inside easier than other models.

Scorpion EXO-AT950 Dual sport helmet – in-depth review

Introduction

Scorpion EXO-AT950, a modular dual sport helmet from the house of Scorpion. Modular helmets provide the perfect blend, allowing you to have the safety of a full-face helmet with the comfort of a three-quarter helmet. More options are available if you speak with the people at Scorpion, such as a modular helmet designed for adventure touring rides. This modular would have all the advantages we’ve come to expect, but it would also be able to handle a trip off the beaten path from time to time. That prompted Scorpion to develop the EXO-AT950, a modular helmet that met the company’s definition of “modular.”

scorpion-exo-at950-1
Scorpion EXO-AT950

In the middle of the adventure touring spectrum, the EXO-AT950 excels in adjusting to the circumstances. Remove the beak, keep the face shield, and if necessary, lower the sunshade if the ride is primarily on asphalt. If there are any light fire roads in the area, the beak can easily reattach itself. You can keep the beak, remove the face cover, and wear goggles if the ride is more adventure-oriented.

Before going further, you can check out our list of Best Dual Sports Helmet in 2020-21.

Features

  • Advanced LG Polycarbonate build.
  • Dual Density EPS advanced
  • Intake vents on top force cool air in while exhaust vents maximize movement of hot air out of the helmet
  • Ellip-Tec Ratchet System uses an elliptical motion that creates 7.6mm of travel which pulls the shield securely against the eye port, ensuring a proper seal and allows for 100% tool-less shield changing in a matter of seconds
  • EverClear No-Fog Face Shield optically-clear shield with state-of-the-art fog-free technology,
  • Anti-scratch hardened coating,
  • 100% UV-A & UV-B protection
  • Wide eye port (11cm tall)
  • Ever Clear Speed View
  • Kwik Wick II anti-microbial helmet liner
  • Kwik fit cheek pads
  • Communication system speaker pockets

Build & Design

LG polycarbonate and dual-density EPS make up the EXO-AT950‘s outer shell. Despite its lightweight (it only weighs four pounds), the materials used to construct this helmet ensure that it is both protective and strong. The three sizes of the shells absolutely maximize weight, fit, and overall comfort. KwikWick II is featured in the helmet’s liner and, pin-lock is not included. Double D-ring buckles secure the nylon chip strap.

scorpion-exo-at950-2
Scorpion EXO-AT950

An intermediate oval head shape is what the EXO-AT950 helmet offers, and it’s important to know your own head shape before purchasing any type of protective gear. When you close the chin bar on the Scorpion EXO-AT950, it becomes even snugger across the cheeks.

For this test, we primarily used the Adventure Mode setting on our device. You can quickly and easily switch between modes with a screwdriver or a coin by removing simply two sturdy aluminum mounting screws. Pulling a chin tab and then pushing the chin bar up until it locks into place opens the helmet. Makes helmet fitting much more convenient. However, you can still fix it without it if the chin bar is in its down position.

Vision

The EXO-AT950 has a large eye port for exceptional peripheral and downhill visibility. Scorpion’s Ever Clear no-fog face shield is handy for cold rides. The Scorpion drop-down tinted Sun Visor is a wonderful addition to a modular helmet from a convenience standpoint. The Sun Visor slides down with a finger flick on a tab on the left side of the helmet, eliminating the need to carry an extra face shield. While its utility is obvious, there is a minor optical distortion when the shade is down. However, the distortion may be more irritating to others.

scorpion-exo-at950-7
Scorpion EXO-AT950 Vision Port

Its sun visor is adjustable through a little slider behind the left shield pivot. It’s not particularly dark since that’s against the law, and you wouldn’t want it to be. The sun visor’s front and back feature Everclear anti-fog.

The visibility rating of this helmet is 95 out of 100, which is outstanding. This helmet is incredibly light and easy to ride.

Comfort

Comfort is a primary factor in the design of this helmet. Sweat is wicked away from your face with the KwickWick II inside liner, which is soft and antibacterial. It is also washable, so you don’t have to buy a new one.

This helmet is available in a range of sizes, as we said earlier. Don’t return the helmet straight away if your size turns up being a little too snug or loose. Scorpion offers a variety of cheek pad sizes so that you may customize the helmet to match your face. Extra cheek pads can be ordered via the company’s website or by phone.

scorpion-exo-at950-6
Scorpion EXO-AT950 liner

Comfort is further enhanced by the inclusion of a chin guard on this helmet. In addition to being comfortable and providing excellent protection, the chin guard’s EPS lining is also fantastic for safety and comfort. You can be sure that the chin guards on this helmet are safe because Scorpion has a good track record of producing them.

Scorpion recommends that riders not wear this helmet for safety reasons when wearing the chin bar or shield extended upward. Using a less-secure helmet increases the risk of the headgear falling off during use. You should always wear this helmet properly and keep the chin bar down if you want it to provide the most protection.

This helmet has received a rating of 90 out of 100 in terms of user satisfaction. People appreciate the variety of cheek pad options and the wide range of sizes available in this helmet.

Ventilation

With just a chin and crown vent on the EXO-AT950, its owners say ventilation is excellent. Some may find this insufficient for their off-roading needs. Still, it’s adequate for those of us who plan to ride primarily on roads and only venture off them on occasion.

A huge three-way slider is on the chin vent. When the shield is entirely up, the back is vented; the air is directed to the face when it is totally down.

The top slider can be opened or closed to let air flow through the helmet shell and into the large airways carved into the polystyrene liner within.

According to the majority of owners, the venting is excellent. They also claim that the included chin curtain helps to block out drafts from the bottom, although you can leave it off if you like more airflow.

Safety Ratings

The EXO-AT950 is both DOT and ECE certified, which is a big plus. Since the EXO-AT950 is a polycarbonate helmet, its reviews ratings are four and three stars out of five from various reviewers. They’ve also tried out several Scorpion helmets with flip-fronts.

For this reason, the results of this study are not based solely on a single model of Scorpion EXO-AT950 helmet. We would expect this helmet to achieve at least a three-star rating and a chin bar score of at least 95% based on similar helmets’ SHARP ratings.

This helmet contains additional safety features that make it a worthwhile investment. Its visor shield provides excellent peripheral vision and an anti-fog coating to provide clear vision regardless of the weather. Sunglasses come with an EverClear coating on the lens.

Available Sizes

According to the Scorpion these are available sizes for EXO-AT950

XS 53cm-54cm

SM 55cm-56cm

Conclusion

Untested safety features can prevent some buyers from choosing this particular helmet. Remember that Scorpion is a reputable company with other proven helmets. It’s up to you whether you buy the AT950 based on its safety tests.

If you ride off-road frequently, this may not be the helmet for you. It’s not quiet, and the airflow isn’t great. This helmet may be ideal for riders who spend most of their time on the road.

Overall, the Scorpion EXO-AT950 helmet is a rider’s dream. Its soft interior makes it enjoyable to wear, and its tough exterior keeps you protected.

The AT950 has its benefits and drawbacks, but the good outweighs the bad. This helmet provides excellent peripheral vision and visibility. The Everclear anti-fog coating on the face shield and visor makes for a fantastic ride in any condition.

This helmet will provide you with confidence, safety, and protection. Given all of its outstanding features and benefits, its price is fairly affordable. Few helmets are created with this degree of comfort and versatility. This helmet looks and feels great.

AGV AX9 Dual sport helmet – in-depth review

Introduction

For more than half a century, AGV has been producing high-quality motorcycle helmets. In the modern-day, Dainese owns the company. The partnership has been a success. The helmet designs are more comfortable, the quality is better. Since then, helmets have been easier to find in stores.

agv carbon ax9
AGV AX9 Carbon

Given that it is the successor to the motocross AX8, the AX9 appears to be a typical dual-sport. AGV says the AX9 is part of their current touring range. Still, it also improves features like increased comfort, improved ventilation, and redesigned aerodynamics. This is besides the SportModular model available. In other words, it’s more geared at those who prefer to go by motorcycle on the open road.

Before going through the in-depth review you can check out our list of best dual sport helmets of 2020-21.

Features

Before we start our in-depth review we take a look at some salient features.

  • Lightweight carbon-aramid-fiberglass construction
  • Tool-less, detachable chin vent guard
  • Five vents: adjustable chin-vent, two brow inlets, 2 outlets
  • Panoramic, Pinlock-ready visor
  • Adjustable peak to reduce sail effect
  • Double-D strap
  • Speaker pockets for Bluetooth intercoms

Build & Design

This helmet is either a composite fibre mesh that combines carbon, fibreglass, and Kevlar; or a carbon-fiber version. Regardless matter which option you choose, you can rest assured that you’re getting nothing but the best. Even at high speeds and in hazardous conditions, these materials help keep your head safe.

agve ax9 2
AGV AX9 Build Quality

Most AGV helmets fit squarely within the oval range in terms of shape. You should expect your AGV helmet to fit nicely in the front, with a bit of extra room in the back, depending on the exact helmet and size.

The AX9 is available in XS-XM, ML-XL, and 2XL shell sizes. To accommodate different body types, different amounts of padding are included in each size. The result is a snug fit that feels even snugger by tightening the double-D ring system to your unique preferences. Make sure the ring system isn’t too loose. Otherwise, you could end up with a helmet that falls off your head in an actual crash.

Vision

The visor is Pinlock compatible and includes an anti-fog insert. It’s also not a quick change visor. Most quick-release methods need you to open the visor before pulling it off. The AX9 has a prominent sun peak in the way.

But it’s a big visor for good vision. To me, AGV claims 190° horizontal and 110° vertical. Many owners remarked on the visor’s size and visibility.

It also has two opening tabs left/right, which makes things easier. Left-hand opening when moving, right-hand opening when stopped, and pushing in the clutch.

agv ax9 1
AGV AX9 Visor

The AX9’s configuration options allow for real off-roading. Even while AGV anticipates most riders to use their AX9s on the road, don’t expect it to take as many varieties of goggles. As a natural motocross lid, the visor can be too tiny for a few of the more oversized goggles out there.

Some owners complain that the visor doesn’t open due to the peak and not tool-less. Besides, it offers a ‘cracked open’ or city position, which many riders prefer for increased ventilation while having the visor down.

It’s hardly surprising that a multi-purpose helmet like this has flaws. But the AX9’s visor is well thought out, implemented, and most, much likable by owners.

Comfort

AGV has never had difficulty with designing extremely comfortable helmets. And AX-9 users are united in their appreciation of the helmet’s materials and padding, which they say makes long rides a breeze.

When it comes to the lining, you’ll find fabrics like Ritmo, Nabuk, and Shalimar that can be removed and washed. You can learn more about these fabrics here. Still, in a nutshell, they’re super-comfy, sweat-wicking, germ-killing, and cool and comfortable materials. There is a glasses groove in the cheek pads to prevent stems of glasses or sunglasses from digging in.

agv ax9 liner
AGV AX9 Liner

The new AX is released into the 21st century by featuring spacious speaker pockets by AGV. The AX9’s speaker pockets now have enough room for a Bluetooth kit and headphones, so you can ride in connected comfort without suffering from ear discomfort.

In addition, the AX-9’s weight shouldn’t be a problem for you, either. The full-carbon version weighs 1.45 kilograms (3.2 pounds), while the composite fibre version is 1.55 kilograms (3.4 pounds).

All in all, the AX9 is a good motorcycle helmet. The front of your head may feel a little pinchy if your head is a little rounder than usual, so it’s a good idea to test it out first. Reshaping the internal padding can help with some of this, but you don’t want a helmet that will create discomfort in the future.

Ventilation

The AGV AX9’s ventilation system is one of the most notable aspects of the helmet. The AX9 has all of the usual ventilation openings you’d expect, such as the chin scoop, front vents, and so on, and they are adjustable. Airflow is adjustable by adjusting the chin scoop, which also includes a dust filter. Additionally, this filter is removable. Even the chin scoop may be shut all the way thanks to an inbuilt mechanism. The chin vent routes behind the visor to aid in de-fogging the glass as necessary, thus enhancing visibility.

agv ax9 rare vents
AGV AX9 Rare View

AGV claims that the AX9 provides up to three times as much airflow as the previous AX8 model, including adjustable and closable top front vents. Our best guess is that it will keep you cool and ventilated.

Safety Ratings

Even the “standard” composite edition of the AX9 contains certain high-tech elements. This is a composite of carbon, aramid (i.e. Kevlar), and fibreglass, molded to fit a wide range of sizes.

Shock-absorbing interior polystyrene foam features in the AX-9’s design. Shocks of varying speeds can be cushioned by helmets that have multi-density liners. For the second time, this is an excellent feature to find in the AX9.

Safety is not an issue with the AX9, as it is both DOT and ECE certified. An inside liner with a quad-density shock absorption unit reduces impact from crashes. Thanks to the helmet’s lightweight carbon structure, it can avoid many other problems.

Conclusion

AGV helmets can be a little pricey, but I’ve found that the quality of their goods justifies the cost. AX9 is no exception. Even after numerous days of two to four-hour rides, there is still space for improvement—better airflow, less noise, and no fatigue.

The AGV AX9 is your best bet if you’re in the market for a high-end helmet. Although few helmets can be labeled “the final helmet you’ll ever need to buy,” this one indeed has a shot. This helmet’s safety mechanisms and other alternatives more than offset the helmet’s few downsides, including an average noise level and a simple visual design.

Even though the AX9 isn’t cheap, it’s a fantastic companion to have if you’re planning a trip into the wild on two wheels.

Bell Moto-9 Flex Motocross helmet in-depth review

Introduction

Bell’s Moto-9 Flex is a top-notch motocross helmet and an excellent off-road helmet. The Bell Moto-9 Flex, recommended by seasoned motocross racers, provides excellent impact absorption, exceptional quality, and outstanding comfort.

Designed by one of the world’s oldest and most respected off-road helmet manufacturers, the latest and most advanced motocross helmet is available. The Moto-9 Carbon Flex has a three-layer impact liner for the first time. Not only just one but three distinct polymers are also used to create a “progressive” energy management system that can handle both low and high energy levels.

Before going further you can read our list of best dirt bike/motocross helmets in 2021.

Features

Here we start our in-depth review we take a look at some salient features.

  • Lightweight composite construction shell
  • Progressive Layering Technology
  • Adaptive Fit construction  for a better fit
  • Velocity Flow Ventilation system
  • Removable/washable X-Static XT2 silver liner
  • Extended Wear interior
  • Magnefusion Emergency Removal System (MERS) cheek pads
  • Fully ventilated EPS-lined chin bar
  • Integrated vented roost guard
  • Magnefusion magnetic strap keeper
  • Padded chin strap with D-ring closure
  • Snell M2020 and DOT certified

Build & Design

The outer shell of the Bell moto-9 Flex helmet is available in two variants. The Flex version has an outer shell made of 3K carbon fiber. The construction of the MIPS version is of a tri-matrix composite. However, the carbon helmet is lighter, both helmets are sturdy and lightweight. Both helmets come in three outer shell sizes to ensure that you get a more appropriate helmet to your head size.

To spread impact energy and limit rotational energy transfer. Bell Moto 9 Flex utilizes many densities of material. The design of the shell is to rotate your head. Each lining layer is different from the rest (pictured below). This reduces the risk of head and neck injuries by reducing the amount of brain movement. As a result of the liner’s separation, it can accommodate a more excellent range of head shapes. The helmet’s ventilation is additionally enhanced by the helmet’s segmentation.

Furthermore, the helmet is ECE 22.05, DOT, and Snell M2015 certified in the United States. It has an intermediate oval-shaped fit. Size M of the Bell helmet weighs in at roughly 1330 grams, which equates to about 2 pounds, 15 ounces.

Vision

You’ll have a wide range of goggles to choose from, thanks to the helmet’s broad visor opening. Having these muscular lines on both sides of the visor, which will help maintain your goggle strap in the proper place when riding, is another beautiful feature of this helmet.

Bell moto-9 flex

Two fast flip fasteners on either side of the peak may be released and retightened as needed due to their floating construction. Because you’ll be able to shield your face from the light more effectively. It also comes with many cutouts, which can help decrease the sailing effect, but bear in mind that these visors can contribute more turbulence to the helmet if you’re going fast. ” However, all in all, these are beautiful additions that demonstrate the product’s high price tag.

Comfort

The Moto-9’s interior is where things become interesting. The X-Static XT2 liner is detachable, washable, antibacterial, and moisture-wicking. Inside are a magnetic double D-ring chin strap and magnetic cheek pads with a rapid release. Following is an excellent setup because it is quicker to remove the helmet after an impact. It also makes use and cleaning much easier as you pull them out and replace them.

The Flex liner system uses three materials to keep you safe inside the helmet. The inner layer of EPP will take your mid-speed impacts with the EPO. The EPO and EPP will work with the final EPS layer for high-speed impacts. A plane between the two layers lets the helmet handle rotational energy in an angular impact.

This method also provides significant gaps between the liners, allowing for most ventilation. The MIPS version has a standard EPS. It is an impact absorption liner with an extra slip layer of elastomer to absorb angular impact. Finally, the helmet features Bell’s Eject system. Inflatable bladder in the crown lets you remove the helmet from your head. The Moto-9 has many safety concerns, and the helmet should be able to handle several impacts.

The Moto-9 Flex includes the X-Static XT2 silver liner. This detachable, washable, antibacterial liner keeps the helmet smelling fresh longer. Flex allows the liner to conform to your head shape for an unparalleled fit. One of the most comfortable helmets available.

Ventilation

Indeed, the ventilation is top-notch because it’s Bell’s best-selling Off-Road Helmet. The chin has a big air entrance with a dust screen built into it, and there are two more air inlets on either side of the forehead. The chin bar has a few cutouts on both sides. After that, there are seven vents in the rear, three on each side and one at the top of each, to help dissipate this heat. Even more impressive is the sheer volume of air that can funnel in through the visor’s opening.

Moreover, nine vents funnel air into the liner as well as through the shell. The detachable and washable filter is located on the chin of the Bell Moto-9 Flex helmet. Exhaust air is blasted out the back of the vehicle via four passive exhaust vents. There are additional pathways for air to move and disperse, thanks to the segmented liner that was previously discussed. This is one of the coolest MX helmets you can get your hands on. As a whole, the helmet is really quiet. No whistling is coming from the vents or the roof’s peak, which means that most outside noises are totally muffled.

Safety Ratings

The helmet is ECE 22.05, DOT, and Snell M2015 certified in the United States. It has an intermediate oval-shaped fit. Size M of the Bell helmet weighs in at roughly 1330 grams, which equates to about 2 pounds, 15 ounces.

Verdict

Also included are cheek guards that are detachable in an emergency. Helmet removal will be easier for paramedics by using this tool. With the “Eject Helmet Removal System” built into the crown, a rubber tube connects the Moto-9 to a plastic insert. The tube can be used by emergency responders to pump air into the bag, allowing the helmet to be carefully removed from your head. On the strap is a magnetic tip, which makes it easy to secure even with gloves on. Bell’s five-year warranty is icing on the cake with the Moto-9 Flex.

Generally speaking, this is one of the best Motocross helmets on the market, and it’s well worth the price tag. This helmet, which retails for $630, is exceptionally comfortable and provides a lot of options. This is without a doubt one of the greatest off-road helmets you can buy, with features like outstanding ventilation and top-notch safety. Motocross riders all around the world praise this helmet, which also comes with a five-year warranty.

Arai XD4 Dual sport helmet – in-depth review

Introduction

Arai XD4 helmet has remained unchanged since its release in 2012. At launch, Arai claimed about the XD4‘s improved ventilation. It includes redesigned diffusers and a new shield with brow vents to better channel ram air. With the XD4’s internal liner, users can reduce the foam thickness on cheek pads and the sides of the crown by 5 millimeters. There are also rapid removal tabs for the cheek pads in case of an emergency.

Aside from that, the shell design of the helmet has modifications. It is now available in five shell sizes (XS, SM, MD-LG (same shell), XL, and XXL). This will provide the smallest and lightest helmet possible.

Arai XD4
Arai XD4

According to sources, the peak’s aerodynamics were modified in 2018. The interior fabric improvements are to match the Corsair’s, and anti-fog coated shields with a few tint variations were added.

Before going any further our list of 8 best dual-sports helmets in 2020-21 featuring Arai XD4.

Features

  • Comfort headliner, with micro fitting 5mm peel away temple pads
  • Fully removable/replaceable/washable Interior
  • Dry-Cool technology
  • FCS (Facial Contour Support)
  • Improved shell shape for better aerodynamic stability at higher street speeds
  • Exhaust ports added to the top diffuser vents
  • Chin vent with more intake ports
  • Larger sculpted side cowl vents improve ventilation
  • SNELL M2020 approved

Build & Design

Comparing it to the XD-3, the Arai XD4 is a significant upgrade. Arai has enhanced the model’s balance and aerodynamics to reduce wind resistance. Yet, they provide a more comfortable fit.

For both chilly and hot weather riding, they’ve added brow vents to the shell of the XD-4. These vents provide an extra level of airflow via the front of the helmet.

arai xd4
Arai XD4 build

The shell build is of the same material as many other Arai helmets, Super CLC. These materials combine to make the helmet light while yet providing incredible strength and protection.

In its favor, the basic shell and construction of Arai helmets are very similar across models. They need only minor alterations to accommodate a variety of riders.

Vision

The shield is big and molded to the curvature of the helmet, with integrated brow vents. It also features an Arai shield lock, though it isn’t cracked open like some Arai’s. A shame it isn’t a quick-change shield, but it is Pinlock-ready, so you can add an anti-fog insert on chilly, rainy, or humid days.

The large shield opening also allows for a pair of goggles in case of shield removal. That peak serves as both a sun shield and a roost guard, preventing dirt and stones thrown up by other bikes from hitting your goggles/shield.

arai xd4 visor
Arai XD4 vision port

The design of the Arai XD4 peak is to break off in an accident and is only secured by two nylon screws on either side.

If you do not use dual-sports helmets, you could imagine the peak acts as a sail when riding, especially in a crosswind or when looking back. You will notice it, and it will take some time to adjust. The Arai XD4’s peak is very aerodynamic, with some owners reporting it’s fine up to 90 MPH before the drag becomes noticeable.

Aside from the whistling sounds noted above, shield and peak work nicely.

Comfort

Arai is one of the few motorcycle helmet manufacturers who acknowledge that human heads differ in shape (more or less). Yet, the Arai inner shape categories appear to have recently converged around a more “Balanced” shape. In the past, Arai made a “Long Oval” helmet (the Signet-Q), but it didn’t have a blade-like interior fit.

arai xd4 headliner
Arai XD4 headliner

Above the RX-Q, the Arai XD4 is almost identical, although the cheeks are tighter. The dual-sport XD4’s chin bar is presumably more pointed or angled. A pair of slimmer cheek pads would solve this in a moment, but they’ll add about $45.00 to an already pricey helmet. The XD4 has 5 mm internal temple cushions that are detachable by the rider to adjust the fit.

Ventilation

The XD4’s ventilation has many improvements over the XD3’s. It has vents everywhere, with three in the chin, two on the brow, and two enormous scoops on the top. There are four big exhaust vents in the shell at the rear, as well as a large neck outlet in the padding at the back, to allow the air to exit the helmet.

Open/close/direct chin vents can open or close from inside the helmet, and two big exhaust vents on top may also be opened/closed from the inside.

In several reviews, people praise them for providing plenty of circulation to keep shields (relatively) fog-free and the top of your head comfortable. If you’re going to wear a helmet, you’re going to have a difficult time finding and operating the vents. That’s the case with most helmets, so you should pop it on and drill before you go out.

While the vents may be a little fragile, Arai has designed them to break off in an accident so that they don’t dig into the helmet and spin it. If you break your helmet or it cracks, you can easily replace most of the exterior vent covers.

Safety Ratings

This helmet is certified by both the DOT and the SNELL. While still providing the rider with both durability and comfort, it gives the rider optimum protection. Additional protection is provided by a thick comfort liner and cheek pads for the rider’s head on all four sides, as well as the back of the helmet.

Conclusion

This helmet is unquestionably the best dual-sport helmet we’ve tested. However, it isn’t flawless, and it costs a lot of money to use it.

It’s only fair to demand perfection when you spend so much money on a helmet.

With the slightly disappointing airflow from the top vents, we can live with it, but the short chin strap with less padding than is found on helmets costing 80% less is rather strange. Was this a deal-breaker for you? Probably not, but it’s still disappointing.

However, the XD4 has a lot to offer.

This helmet appears to have been designed with aerodynamics and tiny features in mind. As a matte black overlay on the underside of the peak, the accurate fit of the face shield to the eye-port, and the paint and general build quality.

Still, it’s a lot of money to shell out for a helmet that, admittedly, falls inside a smaller range of use.

When it comes to sportbikes and touring bikes, a flip-up, full-face, or even an open-face helmet like the XD4 just doesn’t appear as fashionable as a dual-sport helmet like the XD4.

Arai VX-Pro 4 Motocross helmet: in-depth review

Introduction

The Arai VX-Pro 4 has replaced the VX-Pro3 as Arai’s off-road helmet of the latest generation. The Arai VX Pro 4’s overall design and function are identical to its predecessor, but a few additional features improvements are there. In addition to white and matte black, there are six color options to pick from.

The Arai VX Pro4 is a suitable successor to the popular VX Pro3 off-road helmet.

You can also check out our list of best motocross helmets in 2021.

Just like an Arai,” the VX Pro4 says as soon as you unpack the box. In addition to looking like an Arai, the firm feel of the exterior and well-finished interior tell you that this one is special.

arai vx-pro 4
Arai VX-Pro 4

As a result of motocross, enduro, and off-road racing input, the VX Pro 4 has two notable upgrades over the VX Pro 3. Improved airflow and aerodynamics at the point where the peak meets the helmet shell are among these features.

Chin vents now have stainless steel mesh openings attached to a removable component outside the chin bar, rather than being built into the bar itself, which is one of the most apparent changes.

Features

Build & Design

There are no compromises because it isn’t a street helmet, which is perhaps why many top motocross riders prefer the VX Pro series.

To help minimize catching during an impact and slide, the VX Pro4 has the same hand-laid Arai “Super Fiber” shell as the VX Pro3. Arai claims Super Fiber has 30 percent more tensile strength than fiberglass” and “increased penetration resistance.”

You don’t see and don’t know it’s there (until you need it). And it’s one of the reasons the helmet is so expensive. It is six times costly than fiberglass. The VX Pro 4’s shell feels robust, and the helmet is Snell M2010 certified. You can sense the firmness, as is the quality of the graphics used.

arai vx-pro 4 build

The “Tip” graphic is in red (sort of a nearly high-viz bright red-orange). The black parts are flecked with multi-colored metal flake particles, another subtle touch that contributes to the helmet’s richness. The white, silver, and red parts also look like small metal flakes, and the Tip graphic is stunning.

arai vx-pro 4 liner
Arai vx-pro 4 liner

The liner is another typical Arai; it’s a multi-section construction removable and customized to the wearer’s head. The moving pieces include simple sliders for the brow vents and a dark smoke transparent vent cover for the top, sides, and rear. The adjustable peak also feels sturdy, although not as much as others.

Vision

Of course, the way the goggles fit is an essential condition for an off-road helmet. There is much room in the VX Pro4’s eye-port to accommodate large goggles, and peripheral vision is as good as one can expect from a helmet of this type.

The VX Pro4’s peak has been extended by 14 millimeters and expanded by 5 millimeters compared to the previous model. Fore/Aft is adjustable by releasing a friction screw, which provides good coverage. As an added bonus, it has a black appliqué on its bottom that helps to minimize glare.

Peak

The attachment point of the VX Pro 4 has been redesigned because the VX Pro 3 peak had less area for air to flow beneath and through, resulting in lift.

Suppose you ride a motorbike with a short windscreen, such as a dual-sport bike. In that case, you may detect some additional noise around the top of the peak for certain combinations of head angle and windscreen adjustment. Peaks cause low-frequency noise, depending on the angle and kind of windshield. This noise is eliminated when the air or peak angle is adjusted.

Comfort

The Arai VX-Pro4 is the lightest, coziest, and most comfortable helmet ever. Like a second skin. Others found it suffocating.

arai vx-pro 4 safety
Arai vx-pro 4 cushioning

Looking at the cutaways on the bottom of the visor, Arai has created more open cutaways to enable more airflow through the visor. This adds stability to the rider’s head and neck, especially with high speeds. If you ride at high speeds and don’t have many cutaways in your visor, your head and neck will bob around. These huge cutaways allow more air to pass through, reducing turbulence and giving the rider additional head and neck stability. This model’s rounded chin bar gives the rider extra clearance and comfort from the chin to the front of the helmet.

arai vx-pro 4 cheek pads
Arai vx-pro 4 cheek pads

The Arai VX-PRO 4 has an intermediate oval fit with more room in the frames. It will be slightly longer front to back, and the side padding is adjustable to allow you more space in your skulls. The cheek pads are also detachable and interchangeable, so you may tighten or loosen the fit. The interchangeable inner comfort padding allows the rider to fine-tune their degree of safety and comfort without changing helmet sizes. It’s great that the Arai VX-PRO 4 gives you that degree of comfort and customization. The Dry-Cool lining in the mask keeps you comfortable while riding. Unlike other helmets, the Arai VX-PRO 4 keeps your face cool and dry after several hours of intense riding.

Ventilation

The VX Pro 4’s ventilation system design is to eliminate Arai “scoops.” The VX Pro4 has two brow vents that open with vertical sliders. A single vent in the center is covered by a low-profile dark smoke plastic cover, and the same dark smoke plastic is utilized on the rear exhaust. There are no moving parts because the vents are open and you can not close them. A single plastic screw removes the rear exhaust assembly.

It now has stainless steel mesh screens on an exterior assembly that breaks apart in an accident. A snap-in plastic cover inside the chin bar allows a detachable foam filter beneath the center vent. The integrated ventilation system works well and is maybe the most efficient we’ve tested. The only limitation is that the noise levels were a little higher than predicted.

arai vx-pro 4 chin vent
Arai vx-pro 4 chin vent

The front of the helmet has fairly noticeable chin vents. Arai has improved the airflow over its predecessor significantly. Most motocross riders keep their vents open. For this purpose, Arai made all vents passive. There are 8 passive vents on the helmet’s exterior (not including the front mask vents).

This allows cool air to circulate through the helmet’s front, sides, and top, keeping the rider cool. The extra vents on the back of the helmet suck hot, damp air out. The complete ventilation system circulates cool air everywhere in the helmet. The back of the breath guard is detachable to increase airflow into the mask. You can easily open or close the breath guard inside the mask if you don’t require too much airflow.

Safety Ratings

The 2015 SNELL-rated VX PRO-4 meets DOT safety criteria for optimal rider safety and security. In an accident, the chin bar design is to break away from your face, not inward on your chin. This gives the rider extra peace of mind knowing that if their helmet breaks in a severe accident, the complex components outside the mask won’t cave in against their face.

Verdict

After a successful run of off-road helmets, Arai brings us the VX Pro4. Off-road, dual-sport, and adventure-touring riders who also ride on city streets will appreciate the VX Pro 4’s many improvements.

This off-road helmet’s fit, feel comfort, ventilation, and ease of use with goggles all sum up to a great value. The pros apparently don’t mind the weight. Their feedback has been included in this latest edition of the Arai off-road helmet.

Fans of Arai will have no choice but to purchase the VX Pro 4 because it has that difficult-to-define Arai feel. This variant is designed to allow cool air to enter the helmet at the front, maximize airflow throughout the helmet, and remove warm, damp air from the back. When it comes to ventilation, the Arai VX-PRO 4 helmet boasts eight more vents. When it comes to the internal padding and liner, you have a lot of control over how it fits and feels.

The Arai VX-PRO 4 is an excellent choice for motocross riders who want a helmet that is both high-performance and cool, and comfortable.

There are various features to consider before making a purchase, which is as follows:

Safety Ratings

As previously stated, there are numerous helmet safety certifications. The most popular certification is DOT. It allows the helmet to be used on public roads in the United States. The ECE rating is used in European countries and is slightly tougher than the DOT rating. Finally, the SNELL rating determines if the helmet is safe enough for competitive racing. In most cases, if your child’s helmet is at minimum DOT approved, you’re set to go.

Comfort Level

A motorcycle helmet’s comfort is quite essential. If your child intends to ride frequently, the helmet ought to be pleasant to wear for extended periods. It’s also a good idea to have a lining that’s moisture-wicking and removable for washing.

Ventilation

Riding a motorcycle, like any other physical activity, can cause your child to overheat quickly. A high-quality motorcycle helmet should have a good ventilation system to provide optimal airflow. Look for a helmet with various intake vents and the option to adjust the quantity of airflow. The cutouts in the EPS interior of the helmet also aid in ventilation, allowing the helmet to breathe better during the hot summer months.

Additional Features

You may find yourself in a position where you require an additional feature in your motorbike helmet. Anti-fogging technology, a pin-lock insert, a quick-release mechanism, or an integrated sun visor are some of the most useful features. The majority of the less expensive helmets just come with the basic functions out of the box, and you will have to pay extra for the extras. Furthermore, the build of motorcycle helmets for kids remains as cheap as possible, so don’t expect many extra features in a kids helmet.

While considering the above features, a list of the top 8 motorcycle helmets for kids is compiled for your reading.

1. LS2 Rapid Youth Helmet

A full-face helmet for kids on our list is the LS2 Rapid Youth. It costs less than $100 and comes with a plethora of functions. It is a stylish motorcycle helmet for children aged 10 and up, with a basic design and an aerodynamic shape. The feel and look of the helmet may appear overly simplistic to some. Still, I personally prefer this style of design.

ls2_rapid_youth_helmet
LS2 Rapid

Safety

The LS2 Rapid Youth helmet’s shell is comprised of lightweight thermoplastic material. It weighs only about 2.8 pounds and is one of the lightweight helmets in its class. The helmet is DOT certified for safety and is available in two shell sizes. Inside the shell is a dual-density EPS liner, the industry-standard found in most motorcycle helmets.

Visor

The LS2 Rapid Youth helmet has a pin-lock compatible face shield. This is anti-fogging technology that is often seen on considerably more expensive helmets. However, the pin-lock must be purchased individually. This helmet does not include a drop-down sun visor, which is typical for a helmet of this price. Overall, the shield has a really robust feel to it.

Comfort

Inside the helmet, there is a totally removable and washable comfort lining made up of several sections. The fit is rather tight, especially around the neck, which may cause discomfort for some people. The LS2 Rapid Youth helmet’s chin strap features a quick-release system that is both safe and simple to use.

Ventilation

Three intake vents provide ventilation: one large inlet vent at the front and the two tiny groups on the helmet’s peak. There is also a huge exhaust vent in the back that allows air to exit the helmet. All of these air vents provide excellent ventilation, ensuring that your child’s head remains cool and dry throughout extended motorbike rides.

The LS2 Rapid Youth helmet is unquestionably a good buy. If you’re searching for a full-face helmet with a stylish design, several useful functions, and is also relatively affordable, this one is a no-brainer. The sole disadvantage of this helmet is its tight fit around the neck.

PROS

  • Lightweight build.
  • Good ventilation
  • Pinlock ready shield

CONS

  • Not comfortable around neck

2. HJC CL-Y Youth Helmet

If I had to pick only one full-face helmet for youngsters, it would undoubtedly be the HJC CL-Y helmet. This motorbike helmet costs a little less than $100, which is the average price for the helmets in this article. Because it is a full-face helmet, it provides your youngster with the highest amount of safety that a motorcycle helmet can provide.

hjc-cl-y-youth-helmet
HJC CL-Y

Safety

The DOT-certified HJC CL-Y Youth full-face helmet is built of lightweight and durable innovative polycarbonate. It will offer outstanding crash protection to children over the age of ten and young teenagers. It is available in different shell sizes as well as a variety of colors. This helmet is also available in pink and purple for female wearers.

Visor

The helmet includes an optically accurate face shield. Thus there is very minimal distortion. The helmet has an anti-scratch layer on the outside of the shield that prevents scratches and provides UV protection. The eye port space is quite large, and there is nothing to obstruct the vision. Using a 4-position ratchet system, you may easily pop open the face shield. The helmet’s vision is outstanding due to these qualities, and it is certainly one of its most significant advantages. Unfortunately, the HJC CL-Y Youth helmet lacks anti-fogging technology in the shield and cannot be used with a pin-lock insert. However, given that it is an entry-level helmet, I find it tolerable at this price point.

Comfort

The HJC CL-Y Youth motorbike helmet’s interior is completely removable and washable. Plush and Nylex are the materials utilized in the interior comfort liner. The helmet is quite comfortable to wear and fits snugly.

Ventilation

A single air vent in front of the chin bar and two smaller intake vents on the top of the helmet provide ventilation. Aside from it, there are a handful of exhaust vents in the back. The intake vents have only two settings: open and closed. The airflow is adequate for a budget helmet, but it is not on par with more costly motorcycle helmets for grownups.

Overall, I have almost nothing negative to say about the HJC CL-Y Youth helmet. It is a very safe full-face helmet that is also really pleasant to wear, and it can compete with some of the higher-tier motorcycle helmets. The only minor concern that your child may encounter is the lack of an anti-fogging system. In that situation, you can leave the face shield partially open.

PROS

  • Protection from UV rays
  • Advaced polycarbonate build
  • Comfortable liner

CONS

  • No option for anti fog system

3. Fly Racing Kinetic Youth

With a price tag of less than $100, it can be termed a budget helmet with a motocross profile, though it may not appear to be. The helmet is available in over ten distinct graphic styles and color combinations, with some of the artworks looking very stunning.

fly-racing-kinetic-youth
Fly Racing Kinetic

Safety

The Kinetic Youth helmet is DOT approved, and it comes in three sizes with a lightweight poly-alloy shell (SM, MD, LG). It is best suited for youngsters aged 5 to 10. The helmet has a dual-density EPS liner within the shell, which provides enough strength and durability for your child’s head.

Visor

The Kinetic Youth helmet, like all other motocross helmets, has a large peak visor on the top of the unit that provides sun and mud protection. It is coupled with most kinds of motorcycle goggles, which will fit perfectly in the eye-port area of the helmet.

Comfort

The interior features replaceable cheek pads and a washable comfort liner. The comfort level of the Kinetic Youth helmet is surprisingly great, especially considering the helmet’s inexpensive price. The cushioning is thick, and the helmet fits true to size. It does not run too small, as some other children’s helmets do.

Ventilation

Ventilation is also adequate, though not as good as that found in some of the more expensive helmets. Its TFV (True Functional Ventilation) system, consisting of several intake and exhaust vents, will keep your child’s head cool and dry during off-road rides.

The Fly Racing Kinetic Youth, in my opinion, is the ideal helmet for families searching for a low-cost, high-quality dirt bike helmet for their children. It is light, fits perfectly, comes in various unique graphic styles, and the quality is stunning.

PROS

  • DOT and ECE certified
  • Affordable
  • Excellent fit

CONS

  • Visor screws are not easy to operate

4. Fox Racing V1 Helmet

Fox Racing’s Youth V1 motocross helmet is a children’s version and the successor to one of the greatest motocross helmets ever created, the Fox Racing V1 helmet for adults. It is a mid-tier helmet that typically costs $130 but feels quite high-end. For a slightly higher price, your child will be able to enjoy elevated levels of security and comfort.

fox-racing-v1
Fox Racing V1

Safety

For safety, the headgear is DOT and ECE certified. The shell is made of injection-molded polycarbonate, it comes in four different shell sizes, and there are a variety of colors and graphic styles to pick. It is a very light helmet, weighing only about 2 pounds (1 kg). Keep in mind that this helmet was made for smaller children and that it fits best for children aged 4 to 8, so keep that in mind.

Visor

The helmet has a detachable peak visor on the upper half of the shell that is held in place by magnets rather than screws. This feature is known as MVRS (Magnetic Visor Release System). It makes maintenance easier and boosts the helmet’s safety, as metal screws can be deadly during an accident. The eye port is spacious, and the helmet has a wide field of view.

Comfort

The Youth V1 helmet is extremely comfortable to wear and provides incredible airflow. Its detachable and washable internal liner is soft and comfortable while also feeling sturdy and durable. The helmet has a pretty tight fit, so I recommend ordering a size larger than your child’s real head size.

Ventilation

As stated previously, the Fox Racing V1 Youth helmet has a lot of airflow. Thanks to its nine inlet vents and four exhaust vents, there is virtually no danger that your child will experience sweating or scorching while wearing this helmet. The V1 Youth helmet outperforms all other helmets on our list in this category.

Overall, after examining Fox’s V1 motocross helmet for children, I can tell that this is a high-quality piece of riding equipment. It fits perfectly, the airflow is excellent, and the pricing is reasonable for what you receive. However, there are some decent helmets on the market that are significantly less expensive than this one.

PROS

  • Lightweigh
  • Magnetic Visor Release System MVRS
  • Well ventilated

CONS

  • Costly than competitors

5. HJC CL-XY 2

The HJC CL-XY 2 Youth helmet is yet another helmet on our list. It costs slightly more than the tier ($120), but it has a premium finish and some graphics. There are numerous graphic designs available, including comic book heroes. The helmet is suitable for children aged 5 to 10, but your child must first try it on to ensure that it fits properly.

hjc_cl-xy-2
HJC CL-XY 2

Safety

The HJC CL-XY 2 Youth helmet, like all of the other helmets in our evaluation, is DOT and ECE certified, making it safe to use in most situations. The exterior is built of a sophisticated polycarbonate composite material and is available in two shell sizes. The helmet weighs roughly 2.5 pounds, making it far from the lightest kids helmet available.

Visor

A handful of screws secure the peak visor to the top of the helmet. It is removable and movable, allowing you to arrange it in a variety of ways. The visor is rather excellent, and it effectively blocks the light. The vision is likewise superb, and you may wear a variety of eyewear with this helmet.

Comfort

HJC chose the Nylex comfort liner for their CL-XY 2 Youth helmet, and it was a wise choice. It is completely removable and washable, as well as has sweat-wicking and antibacterial characteristics. It is a super soft material to the touch, and it is typically used in more modern motorcycle helmets. The CL-XY 2 Youth helmet’s chin strap features a conventional twin D-ring system that is exceptionally secure. Overall, the quality of the helmet is excellent, but the fit is not. The helmet has a round, oval form, which may cause pressure points if your child has a different skull shape.

Ventilation

The HJC CL-XY 2 Youth helmet has eight intake vents and four exhaust vents, which will allow enough fresh air into the helmet to prevent moisture from building up inside the padding. The inner EPS liner features a handful of ventilation cutouts, but they might be wider and deeper. The HJC CL-XY 2 is a well-ventilated dirt bike helmet that will keep your child cool and dry.

The HJC CL-XY 2 Youth helmet has many positive attributes, but it also has a significant drawback. Because the helmet’s shape and sizing are utterly incorrect, you may end yourself exchanging it for a new size. You should thoroughly examine the fitment to ensure that it is a suitable size for your child. Aside from that, the CL-XY 2 is a fantastic helmet that looks nice and feels solid.

PROS

  • More graphics option
  • Very comfortable
  • Well ventilated

CONS

  • Small sizes
  • Price higher than competitors

6. LS2 Gate Helmet

The LS2 Gate helmet is a child version of the famous adult dirt bike helmet, the LS2 Fast MX437. This review will focus on kids’ “Beast” version of the LS2 Gate dirt bike helmet. It has bright artwork that depicts a frightening beast with an open mouth full of razor fangs. The helmet is best for youngsters from 5 to 10 years of age, and it costs less than $100.

ls2-gate-youth
LS2 Gate Youth

Safety

The helmet is DOT and ECE certified, but it also passes several additional safety requirements. The producer employed a unique Kinetic Polymer Alloy (KPA), an ultra-strong alloy in its shell. As part of the energy management system, it offers great shell resilience, low weight, and flexibility. Furthermore, the interior half of the shell has a multi-density EPS lining with 360-degree coverage for increased impact absorption. The helmet is available in three shell sizes and weighs roughly 2 pounds. With all of these protective features and safety certifications, the LS2 Gate Youth helmet is one of the safest in its class.

Visor

The eye port area of the LS2 Gate Youth helmet is rather large, and the visibility from within the helmet is excellent. The helmet has a large peak visor that provides additional protection from the sun and oncoming muck. The helmet is easily compatible with a wide range of goggles. It is even possible to use glasses with it.

Comfort

The helmet includes an inside comfort liner composed of a high-tech moisture-wicking fabric that dries rapidly and is readily removable for washing. The cushion design is gentle and curvy, making it suitable for use with spectacles. A quick-release mechanism is located on the cheek pads. It will be handy to remove the helmet in an emergency.

Ventilation

The LS2 Gate Youth helmet features a huge intake vent in front of the chin bar and a few smaller air vents on top. The airflow is comparable to, if not slightly better than, that of other dirt bike helmets for youngsters. The helmet is particularly breathable due to the high-quality fabric and cut-out channels in the EPS. The first thing that springs to me when I think of the LS2 Gate Youth helmet is its safety. It is without a doubt a highly safe helmet that will provide your youngster with maximum protection when riding a dirt bike. The helmet also breathes nicely, so there’s no need to worry about overheating. But there is one thing I must warn you about. Because the helmet sizing is somewhat smaller than it should be, you may wind up purchasing a larger size for your youngster.

PROS

  • Lightweight
  • Extremely safe
  • Well ventilated
  • Affordable

CONS

  • Size is little tight

7. 1Storm Motorcycle Street Bike BMX MX Youth Helmet

The helmet was designed for those in the ‘youth‘ demographic. The finish is gleaming and dazzling, and there are several options available, including matte and glossy black. The lacquer protects the paint while also preventing it from fading.

The appearances are kept to a bare minimum. The front has a contour and a chin. A crease continues towards the trunk, initiating the wing toaster with a Nike arrow and producing an angled aspect from both medial sides.

1storm-motorcycle-street-bike-youth-Helmet
1Storm Motorcycle Street Youth Helmet

Safety

The casing was built of a thermoplastic metal that claimed to be ‘aerodynamic’. To be honest, it’s the shape. This fabric is a plastic thread that is resistant to high temperatures and has enhanced elastic characteristics. That makes it appropriate.

While maintaining ethics, the metal can sustain, endure, and harden medium-to-high-speed effects. To achieve this level of security, you must act quickly. 1Storm gets the win!

Weighing just about 4 lbs, it’s almost a lightweight helmet for that large size, making it unsuitable for wearing for extended periods of time. It may cause your child to stick out among his peers or match a discussion item.

Visor

The face shield is large and wide, giving a wide field of vision. It has out-dents on either side of the base that allows you to easily lift or close it while wearing a glove. Although there is a face shield, color versions of this helmet contain their own colorful visors. One of the hues is available for purchase. The helmet does not have an interior sun-visor.

Comfort

When the cushioning thickness and helmet dimensions do not fit you, the cheek pads and comfort lining can be removed and replaced. The caliber, on the other hand, is standard. The fabric is great, and the pillow effect is sufficient to keep the kids warm. The lining and pads are washable, but rather than wringing, it is preferable to wash in cold water and air dry.

Ventilation

This helmet’s ventilation is straightforward. A chin vent is located towards the front, and it is supported by two wing inlets that produce one piece of its Nike arrow ‘contour.’ Two chimney vents allow the optimum atmosphere to enter. Two exhausts circulate inside the straight back and separate the atmosphere.

The rear does the work via a principle dubbed the Venturi effect. When going at high speeds, the helmet causes turbulence in the back. You’ll notice this if you see images of wind tunnel tests of a few goods, such as autos. This turbulence creates a vacuum effect at the back that is powerful enough to pull the damp and warm air out. Simple and efficient.

Because this helmet will not require any other type of navigation or even air stations inside the EPS, determining the cooling system is difficult. There have never been any complaints about the ventilation, so it should be useful.

This is a terrific entry-level helmet for kids and teenagers who want to start riding bikes and scooters or scooterists. Because it is a full-face helmet, it will make your kids look cool around town while also protecting them. It’s robust, DOT-approved, with excellent color schemes and tinted visor options, and has a good build quality.

It’s not a high-end helmet, and certainly not a premium one, so expecting the best will eat your mind. You’d be better off trusting the adage “you get what you pay for.”

PROS

  • leek design and secure magnetic air mount.
  • Second-generation Dynamic Mesh Communication for group riding.
  • High-quality 40mm JBL speakers and noise-cancelling microphone.
  • Bluetooth 5.2 connectivity for seamless integration with smartphones.
  • USB-C quick charge for faster charging times.
  • Long battery life (13 hours) to keep you connected throughout your ride.
  • Voice commands for hands-free operation.
  • Over-the-air updates for continuous improvements and new features.
  • Waterproof design to withstand harsh weather conditions.

CONS

  • Pricier compared to some alternatives.
  • Battery life updates only provided in 25% increments.
  • The magnetic mount makes the unit stick out, causing turbulence and wind noise.
  • Occasional unresponsiveness from Siri (possibly an Apple issue).

8. Razor Full Face Youth Helmet

If you’re looking for motorcycle helmets for kids, this is about as near to perfection as you can get. It checks all the boxes for features, safety rules, and protection. This helmet, which is available in black and black cherry, is adaptable and is suitable for youngsters from 8 to 14 years of age.

razor-full-face-youth-helmet
Razor Full Face Helmet

Safety

The Razor Full Face Youth Helmet prioritizes safety over all else. This is evident due to its many safety certificates. The Razor Full Face Youth Motorcycle Helmet has a DOT safety certification. They also certified the helmet against CPSC. You can ensure that your child will be safe if they fall while wearing this fantastic kid helmet.

Visor

While your kid is riding their bike, their helmet should provide them with as much vision as possible. They are more likely to be involved in an accident if they do not. The Razor Youth Helmet has some of the biggest eye space on the market. This allows your child to see their complete range of vision. They will, yet, rarely need this when riding a bicycle. This makes the model ideal for children who ride with goggles or who need any other type of prescription eyewear.

Comfort

This helmet includes extra cushioning to protect your child’s head and neck. Aside from that, the padding ensures a secure fit. They also ensure that children are safe in the event of an unanticipated collision.

Ventilation

Poorly vented helmets are the leading cause of discomfort and dehydration when riding. Suppose your child’s helmet prevents them from getting adequate air and makes their head 10 degrees hotter than the rest of their body. In that case, they will not only be in danger, but they will also find their helmet uncomfortable and unwilling to wear it.

The Razor Youth Helmet has a ventilation system held of 17 ventilation points.

PROS

  • Extremely comfortable
  • Multiple safety certification
  • Well ventilated

CONS

  • Limited size options

Conclusion

When it comes to your children’s safety, it’s safe to say that parents or guardians will go to great lengths to ensure a happy, healthy existence. That is never more true than when your children decide to participate in activities such as motorcycling or dirt biking.

Off-roading, when done, can be as safe as any other activity. Of course, when people cut corners or don’t offer the proper equipment. Things may become a bit problematic.
